« VAMPIRE DIARIES The Vampire Diaries is an American supernatural/drama television series   created by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec in 2009. It is based on the novels   of the same title by the author Lisa Jane Smith. The characters in the book   are different from those in the series and sometimes have less or more   importance. Elena Gilbert is a pretty, popular seventeen year old girl. She attends high   school in the small isolated town of Mystic Falls. Her friends are Bonnie   Bennett, who is a witch, Caroline Forbes, Tyler Lockwood, and Matt Donovan,   who is Elena's ex­boyfriend. She and her brother, Jeremy, lost their parents in   a tragic car crash 4 months ago. Her little brother has been a trouble maker   ever since the deaths of both their parents. He uses drugs, and doesn't listen   to their aunt, Jenna who welcome them home. In this story, it is not easy to be   a vampire. First you have to drink vampire blood, it has to be in your system,   after that, you have to die, and then you have to drink human blood. Also, a   vampire has to be invited into the home by the owner if he or she wants to   come in and can control people's minds. There are two seasons but I'm just going to talk about the first one. So, it's the first day of school, Elena meets Stefan Salvatore, a good vampire,   which Elena doesn't know. He doesn't drink human blood, but animal blood,   even though if it makes him weaker than if he would do. Then, Elena finds out that Stefan has a brother called Damon. Stefan hates   him because he's not one of the good vampires. He murders everyone in his   way and drinks human blood. Damon feels a lot of pain because of Katherine,   a vampire who died in a fire 145 years ago, and who they both loved to   madness. She is the one who turned the brothers into vampires. Stefan and   Elena quickly fall in love, but Elena doesn't know yet that he is a vampire. She   discovers it few weeks later, she decides to break up, because she says that   she can't be with him anymore, because it is too dangerous.
