The Benefits of Training Students to Think Positively:
Is your glass half-empty or half-full? Your answer reflects whether you're optimistic or
pessimistic.
Negative emotions undermine the brain's ability to solve problems and avoid
obstacles.
Whereas optimistic thoughts further enhance the brain's executive function.
Positive thinking does not mean burying your head in the sand.
It is simply moving toward
unpleasantness in an increasingly positive manner.
But, keep in mind there are no “bad”
emotions.
We just have to learn how to balance them.
However, it cannot be denied that
school -the place that prepares us for the future- mainly makes students think negatively.
We
will focus on the main benefits thinking positively provides students with.
First of all, students are just taught to learn lessons by heart so they can get a good grade.
And when they don’t, they straight away doubt themselves thinking that they are the problem
when instead it might just be that the way they study is not efficient for them.
So, having a
positive outlook would help students to have more self-confidence.
Believing in themselves
will give them the strength and motivation they need to accomplish whatever they want, and
so improving their productivity.
Furthermore, it is well-known that school stress takes a toll on health.
Students get easily
stressed by deadlines or by getting low grades.
If they were more optimistic, they would put
their problems into perspective.
Therefore coping with them would be much easier, and the
stress of these situations would decrease.
After all, school days should be enjoyed to the hilt
for us to develop properly.
To sum up, thinking positively creates a ripple effect.
When students are filled with joy, they
become better students, friends.
For me, there is no doubt health comes first.
So, since it
has been scientifically proven that stress puts your health at risk, stress reduction is the most
important benefit of positivity..
