Synthèse Mythes & Héros – Lucas Pierru TS4
During this sequence, we studied the notion of Myth and heroes.
A myth can be defined as a
story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition or a false notion.
A hero
can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievements, a
superhero or maybe a model or an icon.
The documents that we studied in class were mainly
speaking about heroes who started from nothing and became heroes because of their
remarkable stories.
So how can myths and heroes change our lives ? To answer this
question, we’re going to see in a first part the myths and the heroes which, because of their
action, became models, secondly, I'm going to talk about the threat or consequences that a
hero has to face because of is popularity and because he is considered as a hero.
First,we talk about the myth of the american dream and more precisely we talk first about
our dream job.
In this part of the sequence we've seen a video about what is supose to be
«THE» best job in the world.
It was told there that you could win 100 000 dollars per year
and the only thing you had to do was explore the great barrier reef in Australia.
This
example is representative of what could be the american dream because even if it was an
idea of a society in Australia you have all the codes of the american dream : everyone can
participate, can change is life by getting this job and win this open contest.
To continue on
the myth of the american dream, we learn this «From rags to riches» story, It's a text about
the premiere of the movie about justin bieber « never say never » which tells his story from
his tough childhood to his life of today as popular singer.
The film is about one thing : never
give up hope and believe that anything is possible.
And in this text we can also see that
Bieber can be considered as a model, a hero which is also related to our notion.
We also talk about Ted Williams, a hero with a golden voice.
This guy was homeless and he
was doing some tricks with his voice to earn some dollars, to survive.
After he first showed
up on TV,he found a job, he has been engaged on a radio channel and now he is fulfiling his
american dream, and because of that he is an example to follow.
Then, we've seen two
listening comprehension about two famous people : Eva Longoria and Steve Jobs.
First, Eva
Longoria was doing a speech about the 2012 election in the United States she talk about the
american dream and she tells the story of a young girl which dream is to become president
of the United States of America and then Eva Longoria say that she want a president who
build an America where those kind of dreams are possible and she bring her support to
Barack Obama.
And after we talk about Steve Jobs in a more complicated context for some
reason : First, because the recording we heard talked about his death and also because we
talk about him as a hero but also as an anti-hero and talk about what he has done in his life
and why he is considered like that.
Steve Jobs is a self made man who made apple one of
the biggest company in the world and he revolutionize new technologies but has I've sais
before he is also considered has an anti and that's where we're going to talk about the
consequences because many people hated him because for example, he subcontracted the
manufacturing of apple products in China where workers are paid the minimum possible
and working conditions where unacceptable and when a guy like Steve Jobs considered as
one of the modern heroes do that it is sure it has consequences on his image.
To conclude we can say that myths and heroes have changed our lives.
Many heroes fought
for things that they cherished.
They have a capacity to influence the minds of many people,
to help them and to change the course of history.
Heroes do courageous things, they fight for
something or they want to serve others.
They represent a model, an ideal person.
And
nobody can deny their comportment, they changed the history..
