Here’s what Churchill said about the “special relationship”:

“… Neither the sure prevention of war, nor the continuous rise
of world organization will be gained without what I have called
the fraternal association of the English-speaking peoples.
This
means a special relationship between the British
Commonwealth and Empire and the United States… Would a
special relationship between the United States and the British
Commonwealth be inconsistent with our over-riding loyalties to
the World Organization? I reply that, on the contrary, it is
probably the only means by which that organization will
achieve its full stature and strength.
“The United States has no closer ally than the United
Kingdom, and British foreign policy emphasizes close
coordination with the United States.
Bilateral cooperation
reflects the common language, ideals, and democratic
practices of the two nations.
Relations were strengthened by the United Kingdom’s alliance with the United States during both World Wars, in the Korean conflict, in the Persian Gulf War, in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and in Afghanistan, as well as through its role as a founding member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The United Kingdom and the United States continually consult on foreign policy issues and global problems and share major foreign and security policy objectives.” From the US Embassy website in the UK So the two countries have common historical roots and they have specific economic, military, cultural and political relations. It explained why they shared the same policy during key events such as the Gulf war in 1991, the Kosovo War in 1999 or the war against terrorism The special relationship between the USA and Britain went deeper and deeper during the «Reagan and Thatcher years ». They shared the same economic liberal policy, wanted to put an end to communism. Thatcher accepted and supported the euromissile installation in Europe at the beginning of the 80’s. Reagan was president from 1980 to 1988 and Thatcher was prime minister from 1979 to 1990 but it didn’t stop when Tony Blair (1997-2007) and Clinton(1992-2000) and Bush (2000-2008) were at the head of power in the 90’s.
