CONTEXT :
Jane Eyre has found the house where Rochester was living since Thornfield burnt. After coming to Mary and John's, Jane Eyre learns that Rochester had lost his eyesight in that accident.
The scene starts with Mary who is going to give Rochester some water. However Jane takes the tray from her and brings the water herself.
INT.AT DUSK - ROCHESTER'S ROOM - FULL SHOT.
The room is very sad, and gloomy. A neglected handful of fire burn in the grate. In one corner, there are some candles. Rochester is sitting, facing the chimney fire, and Pilot is laying on one side. As soon as he sees Jane, he jumps up with a yelp and a whine, and bounds towards Jane Eyre. Rochester senses the presence of someone in the room.
EXTREME CLOSE-UP ON ROCHESTER'S FACE.
He looks very tired and grieved. He has glassy eyes and a thick hairy beard.
ROCHESTER
(low, tired voice.)
Give me the water, Mary !
MEDIUM SHOT ON ROCHESTER AND JANE.
Jane sets the tray on the table.
JANE
Down Pilot!
ROCHESTER
(He looks confused and turns his head in Jane's direction.)
This is you Mary, is it not?
JANE
(She turns around and faces him)
Mary is in the kitchen, sir.
ROCHESTER
(He puts out his hand with a quick gesture, moving it in air but doesn't touch Jane. He looks a bit panicked.)
Who is this? Who is this?
(He knits his brows, frowns and try to see the person. He asks imperiously and aloud.)
Who is this? Answer me!
JANE
(She moves slowly towards him.)
You have nothing to fear, Pilot knows me and John and Mary know I am here.
