ROBERT DOWNEY JR :FROM THE FLOP TO THE TOP
In 2008, with the release of the first Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr.
became a world famous star.
However, he has faced many trials, some of them quite atypical.
In spite of the difficult moments he
lived, he did not give up, as he would say so well, "You have to see failure as the beginning and the
middle, but never entertain it as an end".

He was born on April 4, 1965 to a director father and an actress mother.
Robert traveled a lot, until
he was 16, living between New York, California, Paris, Connecticut, Woodstock and London.
When he was only 5 years old, his father made him play in one of his movies, but his father was the
person who got him into drugs, he smoked his first joint at the age of 6, which led him in the mid
80's until 2003 to a severe addiction to drugs temporarily ruining his career and even leading him to
jail several times.
He says, "When my father and I were using drugs, it was like he was trying to
express his love for me.
"
Underage and without a diploma, Robert decided to quit his studies to become an actor.
He did a
lot of odd jobs to pay his rent, sell shoes, clear tables in restaurants and others...

Robert began to receive more and more roles and in 1992 he narrowly missed winning the Oscar
for Best Actor for his incredible mimetic interpretation of Chaplin.
He liked this character so much
that he bought Charlie's old house but sold it in 2011 for 1.7 million dollars.
However, at the end of the 90s, no producer wants him because of his drug problems.
Sarah
Jessica Parker, his girlfriend at the time, dropped him after 7 years of relationship, she was
exhausted by his attempts to make Robert sober, that's why his two friends, Sean Penn and Dennis
Quaid landed at his house one morning to force him into a center allow his detox in Tucson,
Arizona.
Three days later, Robert escaped with his tiny water bottle into the desert where he walked
for two days.
He still manages to contact his accountant to come and get him.
Whether it's fiction or
reality, Robert has many adventures.

Mel Gibson, actor, director, screenwriter and also a great friend of Robert's since his difficult
years.
When Robert was incarcerated, Mel Gibson was one of the only ones to visit him for mental
support.
He is also the only one who tries to give Robert a chance in the film industry in 2003 by
giving him a role in the film "Singing Detective".
During the American Cinematheque Award in 2011, one of the most prestigious awards for an
actor, Robert, who received one, uses his entire speaking time to thank and praise Mel Gibson, who
was in trouble during that period.

Today, Robert Downey Jr.
is one of the most appreciated and popular actors.
He has won many
awards and played in many successful movies, the most famous being Sherlock Holmes and of
course Iron Man.
He even claims to be drug free and does yoga and Kung Fu.
In 2015 he was
pardoned for his drug convictions by Jerry Brown, Governor of California.
Robert is now a father of
three and has been drug free since 2003 while remaining a heroic icon to many millions of children
and even adults! Another quote from him, « Just because you hit bottom, doesn't mean you have to
stay here ».

Before we finish, here is a rather funny anecdote; in 1981, Robert was expelled from college for
having stolen a comic book from a classmate while insulting him as a nerd because he read it too
often, however the comic book in question was none other than Iron Man!.
