INTRO
the song I'm going to present is Another brick in the Wall, which dates from 1979.
It's part of the album The Wall and was composed by the group Pink Floyd, which
was active between 1965 and 1996.
Another Brick In The Wall is composed of two
parts, formed on the same musical theme:
● The first is about the death of Pink's father during the Second World War in
1944
● The second is the most famous.
She talks about the British educational system
in the 1950s;
BIOGRAPHY
The album The Wall was composed and written by Roger Waters, bassist, guitarist
and founder of the band Pink Floyd.
He was born on September 6, 1943 in
England.
The band is also composed, at the release of the album, of Richard
Wright (keyboard) who will leave the group just after the last recording, of David
Gilmour (guitarist) who will also leave after the album The Final Cut, and Nick
Mason (Drummer).
ANALYSE
The song Another Brik in the Wall talks about 1950s British education methods
that the composer considers too harsh.
Pink is sent to the school, where teachers
want to "format" him so that he can be integrated into society, using violence if
necessary.
It can also be seen in the words TABLEAU PP These thoughts are, in
the movie The Wall that illustrates the album.
But the song also explains that the
process is a vicious circle: women brutalize their husbands, who do the same with
their students, who in turn become violent, etc.
...
Then comes the sentence "Hey
Teacher! ", A cry of revolt from students who seem to be from the same point of
view as the one treated in the song.
The song does not criticize the level and
methods of learning imposed on students, but only the non-negligible discipline.
The song also criticizes the wearing of the uniform, which is considered devaluing
for students.
CONCLUSION
Through this song, Pink Floyd wanted to focus on the education of English
students that he considers too strict and useless.
It is therefore a committed work
that challenges British education, said too strict by Waters, including calling
teachers "dictators," who format students to fit into the "mold" of society
"Normal".
This music has been censored in South Africa because it affects young
people.
