Natalie Portman is an Israeli-born American actress.
Her name is Natalie
Hershlag.
She also is a film producer and director.
She was born on June 9,
1981, in Jerusalem.
History:
In 1994, when she was only 12 years old, she got her first role in Léon, a film by
Luc Besson.
She played the role of Mathilda, a child.
After this film, she had to
take the maiden name of her maternal grandmother as her stage name to
protect her privacy and that of her parents.
She thus changed from Natalie
Hershlag to Natalie Portman.
After high school, Natalie Portman alternated
between studying psychology at Harvard and acting.
In 1999, she played the role of Queen Amidala in Star Wars.
Afterwards, she
played numerous roles in different films, for which she received several awards.
In 2005, she won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in the film
Closer.
In 2007, she won a Saturn Award.
In 2011, she won the Oscar for Best
Actress for her role in the film Black Swan.
In 2016, her portrayal of Jackie
Kennedy in the biographical film Jackie, earned her a Best Actress nomination at
the Oscars and Golden Globes.
Throughout her career she won many awards
including an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award.
This year, in
2022, she plays for the third time (after 2011 and 2013) the girlfriend of Thor, a
Marvel superhero, in the film of the same name.
From sexism to feminism:
Natalie Portman is committed to women's rights and wants to make her feminist
commitments known.
She has been active since she started to experience
discrimination.
In particular, she participated in an important event.
In effect, when the
Women's March on 20 January 2018, during her speech, she denounced the
sexism she has suffered since her first film.
On her black T-shirt, it is written
Time's Up, the name of the movement launched by 300 women in Hollywood on
1 January 2018.
Speaking out, she says: "I excitedly opened my first fan letter,
a man wrote to me that he had dreams of raping me." Isn't that traumatic for a
