The Handmaid’s tale part.2
Questions:
A] in this story the narrator starts a usual day, she wakes up and has breakfast as usual, and goes out to buy
cigarettes.
But the seller wasn’t the one usually there, it was a young man.
He’s a bit arrogant, when the
narrator’s card isn’t working.
She kept trying but her card didn’t work.
Then she got a bit upset.
B] The dialogue’s written in a way that it’s really integrated in the story, there’s no dashes to introduce a
character speaking.
Dialogues aren’t usually written this way there’s no quotation marks either.
The only way
we kno characters are speaking is the use of “he said”, “I said”.
C] The first and most evident clue is that, the usual lady at the shop is not there, then her card is not working
even though the narrator is really wealthy, as said in the text.
Next clues are that when she calls her bank,
she tries to do so all day long but no one’s picking up, because the lines are overloaded.
All of these clues
contribute in creating a really peculiar atmosphere in the life of the narrator.
Little miss sunshine Part.1
1) The main themes that are developed in little miss sunshine are family and the problems that this
family has to overcome, future plan, failures and successes.*
2) Richard Hoover is definitely part of the winners, he had a really successful career as a scientist for the
NASA for which he worked in the astronomy-astrophysics field.
3) Concerning the father, he lost a book deal, he was supposed to publish his book but it did not
happen, he also lost his father, who represented his strength to keep going, and always fight in life.
His death made him realise that life is not only about winners vs losers.
The son, discovered that he was colour-blind, and this condition meant that he had to give up his
dream job to become a pilot.
However, this traumatic experience lead him to talk again which he had
not done in the whole movie.
Franck, lost his independent after he tried to take his own life, going back to live with his sister.
Nonetheless this lead him to find back his family and share happy moments and memories with
them.
4) Indeed, it’s part of the characters because without it they wouldn’t have lived any of the events
occurring in the film.
The van was always present in any of the incidents, whether they were good or
bad..
