Hello, I am going to talk about London.
London is the capital and largest city of England and the United Kingdom.
London is found in the south-east part of UK.
It’s a big city with
approximately 9 million inhabitants and it measure 1 572 km² (one
thousand five hundred seventy-two square kilometres).
London it’s a very
touristic, modern, welcoming city.
The British capital borders the Thames
which flows into the North Sea.
History
London was created two thousand years ago by the Roman after their
conquest of Britany.
They named it Londinium.
After that the town
became a commercial centre with warehouses.
During the Second World
War, in the summer of 1940, London was heavily bombed by the German
air force.
The damage was considerable.
Over the last two decades, the
city has changed.
The working-class and port districts in the east were
transformed into service and leisure districts to the east.
Monuments
There are a lot of famous monuments in London.
Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the Royal family in London
since 1837.
It is 24 metres high.
The palace is the venue for events
connected with the Royal Family, the stopping-off point for many visiting
heads of state, and a major tourist attraction.
It is the focal point for the
British people in times of joy, crisis, and sorrow.
The Westminster Abbey is one of the most famous religious buildings in
London.
Its construction began in the 13th century, under Henry III.
It is
the burial place of most of England's kings and queens, as well as famous
men and women.
Almost all coronations of English monarchs have taken
place in this abbey.
