A unique festival, never to be seen again
Let's go back 50 years to talk
about one of the biggest music
festivals in history.
3 days of
pure music and peace, over an
half million of attendees.
The
Woodstock Festival is just the
symbol of the festival for a
whole generation.
In this article,
we'll retrace its history, from its
creation through the twists and
turns that made it one of the
world's most influential
festivals, right up to its end.
The Woodstock festival took place in New York
state at Bethel, was supposed to dure to the 15th
august 1969 from 17 august 1969 and was
expecting 50 000 attendees, at least the festival
finished the 18th august 1969 in the morning with
a high score of a half million attendees, ten
times more than expected.

So the public was very
receptive to the festival and
the atmosphere it created.
Indeed, at the start of the
festival, none of the
programmed artists wanted to
play first, for fear of the
audience's reaction.
So it was
Richie Havens, after a hurried
arrival by helicopter because
the site was overloaded with
people, who began a folkloric
chase with the rest of the
audience to get them on stage.
Everything happend
thanks to Michael Lang,
but also Artie Kornfeld, a
musician and producer
and also two investors:
Joel Rosenman and John
Roberts.
More precisly, the
festival took place in a
hayfield next to the town.
It caused some problems
with the long rain period,
the mud in the whole field
and more.
However, many issues quickly appeared...
Only with the increase in attendance due to a
radio New York announcement that the
festival was free, it quickly became chaotic.
There was already 200 000 peoples on
Saturday evening.
For example, the heavy consumption of
drugs and alcohol increased the violence.
As
for the organization, it also quickly became a
mess.
At first, people slept in tents, then the other
arrivals ended up sleeping on the ground in
the mud for....
