« 50th anniversary of the March on Washington DC Two weeks ago, the 28th of August, there was a celebration in Washington DC.

Citizens from across this country commemorated and celebrated the historic March on Washington and Martin Luther King's famed "I have a dream" speech which occurred 50 years ago on August 28,1963.

The 50th anniversary of those historic events was a very important day for the americans.

That's why they started to celebrate them the 21st until the big day. There was a full week of events, exhibits and attractions that commemorate the March on Washington like a concert where they played sacred classical music, traditional Sri-Lankan and Indian sacred songs, traditional hymns, and African-American gospel songs.

There was also the Global Freedom Festival who included four days of education, entertainment and activities that focus on advancing freedom throughout the world, the Gospel Brunch who featured opera singer and included an elaborate Southern-style brunch buffet, and many others... One of the main event was the commemorative march and rally along the historic 1963 route on August 24 who gathered thousands of people.

The Marching route began at the Lincoln Memorial, proceeded south to travel along Independence Avenue, with a stop at the Martin Luther King Memorial and then proceeded on to the Washington Monument. Before the March, the event included speeches by a number of political figures like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, the Congressman John Lewis who is the only surviving speaker from the 1963 march, the civil. »
