A myth is a story that may or may not be true.
All cultures haves myths and this
mythology has been developed over time.
Mythology includes legends of our history, our
religions, stories of how the world was created, and our heroes.
These stories have great
symbolic power and this may be a major reason why they survive as long as they do,
sometimes for thousands of years.
The myth I’ll be talking about today is the Australian founding myth.
During the 18 th
century, the British sailors discovered a land by the name of Australia.
The first
Australians were Aboriginals.
They used to live in the outback of the country and were
an old civilisation.
They were a diversified civilization with more than 250 tribes, each
with their own language, laws and territories.
For the founders of Australia, unify this
land was a real challenge.
Furthermore, the land of Australia was a desert and arid land
because of the irregular rainfall.
Australia was also a hostile land with animals like
snakes.
When the British were colonizing Australia, they established a new order.
They
created some schools to educate aboriginals, but they were private of many of there
rights , like talking their native language , they hadn’t much liberty as they were not well
treated , most of them slept on dirty blankets with no pillows or were punished in some
prison cells.
They were not treated like white British’s and lived in inequality.
During the settlement in Australia, some British prisoners escaped and became
bushrangers or outlaws such as Ned Kelly.
Ned Kelly is controversial hero.
For some he’s
just a thief, a villain, and a cop killer, but for his descendants, he is a hero.
Bushrangers
were one of the first Australians settlers..
